Greater Sudbury Police laid eight Criminal Code charges during RIDE checks on both Paris Street and Notre Dame Avenue on May 19.

A total of 498 vehicles were checked and 19 charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act (i.e. seatbelts)

Additionally, while on Paris Street officers stopped a motor vehicle during the RIDE program and through investigation found out that the vehicle the driver was operating was reported stolen out of Hamilton, Ontario.  

The driver of the vehicle was charged with possession of stolen property, obstruct police and breach of court order, in addition the driver was suspended at the time. The two passengers in the vehicle were also charged with being an occupant in a stolen motor vehicle.

Police conducted three approved screening device (ASD) demands for alcohol, but there were no license suspensions issued for impaired driving during the check stops.
