Drug investigation nets $63K in illegal drugs, three arrested

Search warrant executed on Whitaker Street on May 22 led to the arrest of two Southern Ontario residents as well as a 17-year-old

An investigation by the GSPS Drug Enforcement Unit led to the May 22 arrest of three people and the seizure of some $63,000 in illegal drugs, Greater Sudbury Police said today.

GSPS said the DEU was investigating individuals from Southern Ontario who were wanted on outstanding arrest warrants. 

“As a result of the investigation, detectives with the assistance of the Emergency Response and K9 Units executed a warrant to enter a dwelling on Whittaker Street,” police said in a news release. “Two individuals from Southern Ontario were taken into custody and a third individual, a youth, was detained at the residence.”

Armed with a warrant, GSPS officers searched the residence and reported turning up a cache of drugs and a firearm.

“Detectives located 531 grams of cocaine, 89 grams of Fentanyl, ten five-milligram Oxycodone pills, and over  $25,000 in cash,” police report. “Detectives also located a loaded handgun. The estimated street value of the seized  drugs is $63,000.”

Two Southern Ontario residents, ages 23 and 25, were arrested at the scene, as was a 17-year-old.

They face charges of:

  • Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking x3 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm 
  • Possession of a restricted firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized 
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition 
  • Firearm – Possession contrary to prohibition order (two adult accused only) 

All three individuals attended bail court on May 22. The adult accused were remanded into custody, while the 17-year-old young offender was released with a court date.
