Search warrants executed at two separate residences in Greater Sudbury resulted in firearms, drug charges for two people in Sudbury.
On March 17, 2021 at 4:46 p.m., members from the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the Community Street Crime Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) Integrated Crime Section, Drug Enforcement Unit and Canine Unit, executed search warrants at the residences.
Both searches led to the seizure of three firearms with ammunition, prohibited devices, vehicles, drug paraphernalia, Canadian currency, surveillance equipment and drugs suspected to be cannabis, methamphetamine pills, hydromorphone pills, cocaine and psilocybin.
The value of the drugs seized is believed to be approximately $634,000.
As a result of the investigation:
A 35-years-of-age person from Sudbury was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine , contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA);
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
- Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA;
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
- Possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act (CA); and
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC.
The accused is being held in custody pending bail and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on March 18, 2021, in Sudbury.
A 28-year-old person from Sudbury was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking- Other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
- Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking, Contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA;
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA;
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC;
- Possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to section 9(2) of the CA; and
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, contrary to section 92(2) of the CC.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 5, 2021, in Sudbury.
