Drugs and weapons charges for three people stopped at RIDE check

Manitoulin OPP officers arrested and charged three people after discovering weapons and drugs in their vehicle during a RIDE check stop on Highway 17 on Jan. 27.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, officers from the Manitoulin Detachment OPP were conducting RIDE stops on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township. Officers checked a vehicle and conducted an investigation. 

Upon investigating, officers seized suspected cocaine, a suspected handgun and a large amount of Canadian currency totalling approximately $8,400.

As a result, three individuals were arrested and charged with numerous drug and weapons charges. 

An 18-year-old man with no fixed address has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Carry Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Careless Manner
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order (youth)
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $ 5,000
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking

A 27-year-old woman from Sagamok First Nation has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle knowing there was a Firearm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine 

A 28-year-old man from Wikwemikong First Nation has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a Firearm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $ 5,000
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, no Currently Validated Permit

The accused were held in custody and were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on Jan. 28.
