Update: Two people killed in collision Tuesday evening

Elm Street at Big Nickel Mine Road has now been reopened following yesterday evening's fatal crash, Greater Sudbury Police said shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Two people were killed in a three-vehicle collision Tuesday evening on Elm Street just past Big Nickel Mine Road.

A 40-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. A 55-year-old man was transported to Health Sciences North and was later pronounced deceased.

A 42-year-old man who was driving the third vehicle involved in the collision sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Greater Sudbury Police, Fire and EMS are responding to a serious motor vehicle collision on Lasalle Boulevard at Elm Street.

The collision involved three vehicles and the intersection will be shut down for some time while the collision is investigated.

Motorists should expect delays in the area.

"Please find an alternative route and avoid Elm Street at Lasalle. Specifically, the intersection at Big Nickel Mine Road has been shut down for traffic in both directions," said GSPS in a tweet.

"Motorists travelling on Lasalle extension towards Elm Street will have to continue on Elm, towards Azilda. Officers are present re-routing traffic."
