Espanola search warrant turns up $25K in drugs, OPP reports

An Espanola resident and an Ajax resident both facing multiple charges

Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police report that the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Espanola on May 6 turned up some $25,000 worth of illegal drugs.

The warrant was executed as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation, OPP said, and led to the arrest of two people.

Police said the suspected drugs include suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $3,500, an amount of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $21,800, an amount of suspected oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of $150, and $2,550 in Canadian currency.

A 49-year-old Espanola resident is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid) - two counts
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

A 19-year-old Ajax resident is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (opioid) - two counts
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Fail to comply with sentence

Both accused were scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on May 7.
