There were no injuries in a Sunday evening fire at a home on Stanyon Street, but Greater Sudbury Fire Services say there was extensive damage to the interior of the house.

A total of 17 firefighters from three stations were called to battle the blaze at 6 p.m. Sunday. Four people lived in the single-family residence, although a release from the fire department said only one person had to be evacuated at the time of the fire.

Firefighters estimate the blaze caused $120,000 in smoke and fire damage.

In its release on the incident, the fire department urged residents to develop and practise a home fire escape plan.

“In case a fire starts, everyone must know two ways out of every room, if possible,” the release said. “Don’t try to save possessions – go directly to your meeting place outside.”
