A 68-year-old pedestrian is dead following a fatal collision on Lasalle Boulevard on Nov. 29.

Greater Sudbury Police said officers were dispatched to the scene.

Shortly before 9:55 p.m. on Friday night, officers, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to what police described as “a serious collision” involving a pedestrian in the area of 761 Lasalle Blvd., near Princess Auto.

“Upon arrival, officers located the pedestrian who had sustained serious, life-threatening injuries,” GSPS said. “The pedestrian was transported to hospital by paramedics. Unfortunately, the 68-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in the hospital and was pronounced deceased by medical professionals on Dec. 1.”

Sending condolences to the man’s family, GSPS said the man’s identity will not be released to respect the family’s wishes.

“Based on the investigation, it is believed that the pedestrian was walking in the centre lane when he was struck by a SUV travelling west on Lasalle Boulevard,” police said. “The driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene.”

The GSPS Traffic Management Unit is investigating.
