Three people, including one person from Greater Sudbury, are facing drug trafficking charges following a New Year’s Eve traffic stop on Highway 6 in Little Current.
The vehicle in question was pulled over at approximately 3:30 a.m.
Law enforcement’s attention was drawn to the highway after OPP members, with assistance from the United Chief and Councils of Manitoulin Police Service Commission, were made aware of a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 6 that may have been in possession of drugs.
Three people were arrested in a traffic stop, and a search of their vehicle resulted in officers reportedly seizing approximately 120 grams of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $12,000.
As a result, the driver, a 50-year-old from Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, was charged with Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine.
One passenger, a 45-year-old from Garson, was charged with Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine.
The second passenger, a 63-year-old from Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, was charged with Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine.
The three accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Feb. 25.
