A 21-year-old woman from Garson has been charged with impaired driving after police found her sleeping inside her car, which was still running, but parked on the shoulder of Highway 17 in Wahnapitae.

A 21-year-old woman from Garson has been charged with impaired driving after police found her sleeping inside her car, which was still running, but parked on the shoulder of Highway 17 in Wahnapitae.

The Ontario Provincial Police responded to a suspicious vehicle report on Aug. 2 at 2:40 a.m. When they approached the vehicle, they found the woman sleeping.

Investigation revealed she had been consuming alcohol and was subsequently arrested. She is charged with operation while impaired.

She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 7 in Sudbury. She was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

This charge marks the 38th driver charged under criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2020.
