The victim of an evening hit and run on Regent Street remains in hospital today in serious but stable condition, Greater Sudbury Police reported this morning.

On Aug. 27 at around 9:14 p.m., Greater Sudbury Police report receiving a call for service regarding a man lying on the road on Regent Street between York and Struthers streets.

When officers arrived, they found a man with serious injuries who had been struck by a vehicle, GSPS reported. The motor vehicle involved had fled the scene before officers arrived.

The 30-year-old victim was transported to HSN.

The northbound lanes on Regent were closed in the area for about four hours last night while police investigated.

Police have now determined that the vehicle that hit the man did, in fact, stop briefly after the collision occurred, long enough for witnesses to provide a vague description of the vehicle to police.

“After speaking with several witnesses, it has been determined that the driver stopped briefly after the collision occurred prior to leaving the scene,” GSPS reported today. “The vehicle is described as being a dark coloured SUV.”

Traffic Management Unit investigators are now in the process of obtaining video surveillance of the incident. The driver in this incident is urged to contact police.

Anyone who may have seen the incident or who may have information about the incident is asked to contact Acting Sgt. David Hamilton at 705-675-9171 ext. 2417, or Crime Stoppers at 705- 222-TIPS, or online at SudburyCrimeStoppers.com.
