A 32-year-old Sudbury man is facing multiple charges, including forcible confinement, after Sudbury Police were called to an intimate partner violence-related assault in Hanmer on Dec. 11.
GSPS is reporting that at around 3:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to an intimate partner violence-related assault in progress at a residence on Notre Dame Avenue in Hanmer.
Information provided was that the alleged victim had attended a neighbour’s residence to call police as their partner had been keeping them confined to their residence and had assaulted them multiple times.
Officers surrounded the residence as it was believed that the man responsible was inside. Greater Sudbury paramedics provide medical attention to the victim at the neighbouring residence, and then transported the person to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) including a crisis negotiator attended the scene and at around 6:30 p.m., the man exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
The 32-year-old, man has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault, four counts;
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm;
- Forcible Confinement;
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm;
- Mischief Over $5,000;
He was held in custody overnight for an appearance in bail court Dec. 12 to answer to the charges. His name is not being released at this time to protect the identity of the survivor.
