Sudbury OPP have been out conducting RIDE stops at numerous locations around the city as the holiday season gets into gear.
A pair of RIDE check stops resulted in charges for two drivers.
On Dec. 2, members of the Sudbury OPP established a RIDE initiative on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.
At around 11:40 a.m., officers had occasion to check a vehicle occupied by a man who stopped at the RIDE program.
It was found the vehicle was being operated with an expired validation sticker and the man was a suspended driver.
The driver, a 52-year-old man from Chelmsford, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Use plate not authorized for vehicle
- Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner
- Driving while under suspension
- Operate motor vehicle without insurance
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on Feb. 2 to answer to his charges.
On Dec. 3, members of the Sudbury OPP were once again at a RIDE stop on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.
Officers had occasion to check a vehicle occupied by a male driver and a female passenger who stopped at the roadblock.
Officers noted the evidence of open liquor inside the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, police located and seized a quantity of drugs and liquor inside the car.
The passenger, a 39-year-old woman from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marijuana – under 30 grams.
The driver, a 55-year-old man from Sudbury was charged with driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.
