Updated March 21 at 2:15 p.m.: Greater Sudbury Police have advised that the robbery suspect who was the subject of a manhunt earlier today has been arrested.

Greater Sudbury Police is advising the public of a heavy police presence in the Barrydowne Road area while officers search for a robbery suspect.

The public can expect to see police in the area of Barrydowne Road, Gemmell Street, Westmount Avenue and Hawthorne Drive.

GSPS said officers responded to a theft complaint on Marcus Drive that resulted in the person believed to be responsible resisting arrest and assaulting officers.

"The individual then fled on foot," police said. "The suspect is believed to be contained in the area of Barrydowne Road/Gemmell Street/Westmount Avenue/Hawthorne Drive."

The GSPS K9 Unit is being brought in to track the suspect.

"Pedestrians and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible while officers are on scene."
