Sudbury OPP found the remains after they responded to a call at 3 p.m. Friday of an abandoned car located on Highway 637, about eight kilometres from Highway 69.

The OPP hopes to release information "hopefully soon" on the identity of the human remains found off of Highway 637 Friday, said Const. Carmel McDonald.

Alberta resident Kenneth Wood was also reported missing in this general area Friday, but he has been found alive and well, McDonald confirmed. As such, the two cases are not connected. she said.

The Sudbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is investigating after human remains were discovered Friday in Waldie Township.

Police responded to a call at 3 p.m. of an abandoned car located on Highway 637, about eight kilometres from Highway 69.

The Canine Unit, the Emergency Response Team  and Forensic Identification Services responded to the call and located human remains outside of the vehicle.

“The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed,” the OPP said in a news release. “A post-mortem examination will take place in the coming days.”

The Sudbury Crime Unit is working under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service as the investigation continues.

There is no threat to public safety, police said in the release.
