Human remains found near Sudbury have been identified as a Toronto teenager who disappeared more than 12 years ago.

The human remains have been identified as those of David Paul Caffery, 19. Family members have been notified.

Caffery was hitchhiking back to Toronto from Calgary after visiting family in August 1990, police say.

The remains were discovered last fall located in Burwash Township, south of Estaire. Hunters discovered the remains in the bush approximately 25 kilometres south of Sudbury.

On Aug. 21, 1990, Caffery called home to his family from Thunder Bay and advised them he would be home in a few days. Caffery had recently met up with a male hitchhiker from Germany. On Aug. 25, Caffery was reported missing to the Metropolitan Toronto Police Service.

Police are treating his death as suspicious and do believe foul play was involved.
