Update: Feb. 26 at 7:45 p.m.

Highway 144 southbound has been re-opened after a transport truck rollover closed the highway in both directions this morning.

Original story:

A transport truck hauling baby powder rolled over on the Highway 144 ramp off Highway 17 around 5:30 a.m. this morning, a crash that is expected to keep the ramp closed all day today.

Sudbury OPP Const. Michelle Coulombe told Sudbury.com this morning that the truck was eastbound on Highway 17 and was taking the off-ramp to head north on Highway 144. The truck rolled on the ramp, spilling its load and tumbling into the ditch.

The load is intact, Coulombe said. Clean-up crews will have to pick up the spilled load and get the truck out of the ditch and back onto its wheels — a process that is expected to take at least 12 hours, she said.

The driver of the truck has been charged with careless driving. No injuries are reported.

Southbound traffic on Highway 144 headed east or west will have to detour through Lively to continue on their routes. Vehicles can exit Highway 144 onto Regional Road 24 into Lively. From there, drivers can reconnect with Highway 17 and continue east or west.
