Two-vehicle collision took place near bypass

Highway 17 is now open after briefly being closed near Coniston due to a two-vehicle collision earlier this morning.

The collision took place about 300 metres east of the Highway 17 bypass turnoff near Coniston, according to a motorist who passed the crash at around 9:30 a.m.

Andrew Auger said it appears someone was injured, as EMS workers were carrying a backboard.

Highway 17 is closed in both directions in the Coniston area this morning after a two-vehicle collision.

The OPP North East Region issued the following tweet on its Twitter page shortly before 10 a.m. Monday morning:

“COLLISION: #Hwy17 and Second Ave #Coniston #Sudbury - 2 vehicles. - Hwy 17 CLOSED in both directions while emergency crews are on scene.”
