Update: Sturgeon Falls crash involved three vehicles

Wednesday afternoon collision closed the highway in both directions for about seven hours

Updated June 30 at 10:42 a.m.: Nipissing West OPP has released some information on the crash that closed Highway 17 near Sturgeon Falls on June 29. While the investigation is ongoing, OPP said the crash involved three vehicles: a sport utility vehicle, a passenger van and a pickup truck. 

Three people were sent to hospital with serious injuries as a result of the crash.

The collision occurred in Sturgeon Falls, east of Landfill Site Road. Police have not released any information on whether charges have been laid.

Updated June 29 at 8:50 p.m.: The Nipissing West OPP has advised on Twitter that it has reopened Highway 17 near Sturgeon Falls. 

Officers were dispatched to a collision east of Landfill Site Road early this afternoon. The roadway was closed for about seven hours, from about 1:30 p.m. to around 8:45 p.m. A detour using Highway 64 was announced about three hours into the closure. 

No details have been released this evening with any additional information about the incident.

Highway 17 east of Landfill Site Road in Sturgeon Falls is closed in both directions following a collision this afternoon.

Nipissing West OPP dispatched officers after receiving a call for service at around 1:31 p.m. June 29.

OPP, West Nipissing Fire Department and District of Nipissing West Paramedic Services all responded to the crash.

No details have been provided on the nature of the incident or injuries.

“The highway will be closed in both directions during the investigation and there is no detour at set up at this time.”
