Updated: SUV driver dies after head-on Hwy. 69 crash near Estaire Rd.

The driver of an SUV was pronounced dead after a head-on collision with a commercial motor vehicle in Greater Sudbury on Highway 69 north of Estaire Road just after midnight Monday.

The Nipissing West OPP said they were called out to the scene at 12:09 a.m. this morning. 

The two-vehicle collision involved a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).

The OPP say the preliminary investigation indicates the SUV was traveling southbound on Highway 69 and collided with the northbound CMV.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver of the CMV did not receive any injuries.

The name of the deceased driver is not being released until next of kin is notified.

Members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (T.I.M.E.) attended to process the scene. The investigation is still on-going and further information will be released as it becomes available.

Highway 69 was closed overnight after the collision, but had reopened as of 9:20 a.m. Monday.

Highway 69 has been reopened between Richard Lake Road and Estaire Road, @511ONNortheast reported at 9:20 a.m.

Highway 69 remains closed between Richard Lake Drive and Estaire Road (Hwy. 7279) after a collision overnight, according to the MTO Twitter site @511ONNortheast.

The crash was first reported just before 3 a.m. Monday morning. An update provided just after 9 a.m. confirms the highway is still closed.

No further details have been made available.

There was also a crash on Highway 69 in the French River area overnight, but the highway has since been cleared in that area.
