Donald Plaunt, 62, was charged in the summer of 2003 with numerous counts of sexual assault, gross indecency and invitation to sexual touching against several young males. The charges are related to activities that are alleged to have occurred over a 30-year period beginning in the 1970s.

Plaunt also faces charges of attempting to bribe witnesses and breaching court orders not to have contact with complainants and witnesses.

Justice Norm Douglas of the Superior Court of Justice imposed a publication ban on all evidence at the preliminary hearing and an additional order banning the publication of any evidence which could reveal the identity of any complainant.
