The Nipissing West OPP say they laid 58 traffic charges as a result of their Operation Impact enforcement initiative over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Operation Impact is an annual traffic safety initiative during which Canadian police partners target the four main behaviours that continue to cost the significant loss of life on roads every year: alcohol/drug impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding/aggressive driving, as well as failure to wear seat belts.

Locally, police laid the following charges:

  • 45 speeding
  • One stunt driving
  • 10 moving violations
  • Two impaired driving (alcohol)

Officers also responded to 144 calls for service during this time period.

The OPP remind everyone to please slow down, don't consume alcohol or drugs before driving, drive distraction free, wear your seatbelt and ensure that all passengers are secured by way of an appropriate child restraint or seatbelt.
