Long Record

A 23-year-old Sudbury man with a terrible criminal record was not given the leniency of the court Wednesday.
A 23-year-old Sudbury man with a terrible criminal record was not given the leniency of the court Wednesday.

Andrew Whitmarsh pleaded guilty to possession of stolen property after he was arrested in possession of a stolen DVD player at a hock shop last April.

Whitmarsh resisted arrest and caused a disturbance when police arrived at the hock shop.

Defence counsel Denis Michel said Whitmarsh has returned to school which he admitted ?was the first good thing he?s done? in the last several years. His client wants to finish his high school education and
continue with a college education, he said.

Justice William Fitzgerald told Whitmarsh he?s done very little to stay out of trouble over the past several years and has the audacity to ask the courts to give him a break.

He sent Whitmarsh to jail for 90 days and told him he?d better access counselling for anger management and substance abuse or he will face a ?life sentence on the installment plan.?
