Long weekend police spotchecks lead to several charges

Spotchecks set up at three intersections in Greater Sudbury led to several charges over the weekend, including two related to drinking and driving.

In all, Greater Sudbury Police stopped 241 vehicles at checks set up at the Garson/Coniston Road, Bancroft Drive at Brentwood and Paris Street at Science North. One, three-day driver's license suspension was issued, and a suspended driver was also charged.

A total of seven Highway Traffic Act Offences charges were laid, for such offences as careless driving and document infractions.

In addition to the roadside checks, Sudbury police support Operation Lookout, “a Canada-wide, year-round public awareness program that encourages the public or businesses to call 911 if they suspect an impaired driver.”
