Greater Sudbury Police have laid charges against a 20-year-old man who was waving around what was believed at the time to be a handgun in the city’s downtown Tuesday evening.
Police said they received a call about the man waving around the weapon in Old CIty Hall Lane off of Durham Street at 7 p.m. Aug. 25.
Officers located a man matching the alleged culprit’s description walking down the laneway. They also located the weapon on the ground nearby.
The suspect was placed under arrest and searched. Officers located a loaded BB gun magazine on him as well as a large can of bear spray. The firearm officers had found was confirmed to be a BB gun replicating a handgun.
The man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation as he is currently on a firearms prohibition order stemming from an incident earlier this year.
He was expected to be in bail court Aug. 26.
