Man arrested for murder of former Sudbury resident

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at approximately 1:30 am, a home invasion took place at the residence of 3 Galt St., located on the Hamilton Mountain. During the home invasion, a downstairs tenant of the residence McDonald, was stabbed and later died of the injuries.

From the beginning of this investigation, Hamilton police believed three people were responsible for this home invasion and the death of McDonald.

The Hamilton Police Major Crimes Unit has been continuing the investigation and have now been able to arrest and charge one person. Other arrests are expected shortly.

Arrested and charged with second degree murder and robbery, is 26-year-old man of no fixed address. He is also facing charges of break and enter and assault.

McDonald worked as a cook at the Kelsey?s in Stoney Creek. He was born in Sudbury in 1976 and lived in the Donovan area of the city with his family. His family moved to Hamilton in 1980, but moved back to Sudbury in 1986.

He lived in the city for a while before returning to the Hamilton area. McDonald was preparing to go to Winnipeg for job training when he was killed.

McDonald?s mother and stepfather now live in Markstay. His grandmother also lives in the Sudbury area.
