Domestic dispute results in slew of charges for Sables-Spanish Rivers man

A 61-year-old man from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township is facing a number of charges after threatening his partner with a firearm.

A 61-year-old man from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township is facing a number of charges after threatening his partner with a firearm.

On Monday, Aug. 13 officers from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the OPP with the assistance of the Sudbury - Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit, responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

The investigation revealed allegations of a man assaulting his female partner and threatening her with a firearm. The investigation was enhanced with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team, the OPP Unmanned Aerial system, and the OPP Canine Unit.

As a result, a 61 year old male from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township has been charged with:

  • Assault - Spousal
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sudbury, Ontario on Aug. 15. 

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
