Man charged with trying to rob downtown bank

A 56-year-old Sudbury man has been arrested in relation to a downtown attempted bank robbery Thursday morning. Gerald Laforest, 56, of Martin Street, has been charged with one count of robbery and will appear in bail court this morning.

Gerald Laforest, 56, of Martin Street, has been charged with one count of robbery and will appear in bail court this morning.

Greater Sudbury Police say a lone man walked into the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and demanded money be turned over.

Police say no weapon was used in the robbery, there were no injuries and the suspect was caught leaving the premises without any cash.

Police say the suspect acted alone and there were no accomplices.
