Greater Sudbury Police arrested a 50-year-old man Thursday suspected of robbing a home on Edgewater Street, in the Long Lake area of the city.

In a news release, police said they responded to a call around 12:30 p.m. that a motion sensor alarm had been triggered inside the South End residence.

“Information was received that a man was seen fleeing the residence on foot into the bush prior to police arrival,” the release said.

The man was described as having dark hair, wearing dark clothes and carrying a dark back pack. Police searched the nearby roads and conducted a K9 track of nearby wooded areas.

“During the track, various items were found that are believed to have been discarded by the man,” the release said. “Shortly after the track concluded in the bush, a man meeting the description was seen walking along Long Lake Road at Sunnyside Road.”

He ran away when police approached him, and a foot chase ensued.

“A very short time later the man was apprehended and arrested by members of the tactical unit,” the release said. “A search of the man revealed multiple items from the residence.”

He has been charged with break enter and theft, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of break-in instruments and breach of probation.

The man is in police custody and will attend bail court Friday to answer to the charges.
