Man illegally cuts down trees on Sturgeon Falls municipal property

A 42-year-old Sturgeon Falls man has been charged with mischief after cutting down two large trees on municipal property, and leaving them covering the street.

A 42-year-old Sturgeon Falls man has been charged with mischief after cutting down two large trees on municipal property, and leaving them covering the street.

The OPP received a report of a person cutting down public trees at the corner of Queen and Main streets in Sturgeon Falls July 24 at 8:10 a.m.

Investigation revealed the person cut down two large trees on the municipality's property, and left them covering the boulevard on Queen Street.  

Upon arrival at scene, officers observed the accused walking away. He was subsequently arrested and charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5,000 (2 counts), contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Oct. 1 in Sturgeon Falls.
