In what can only be described as a bizarre event, a man had to be rescued from inside a sinkhole on Lorne Street on Aug. 1, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

A video of the man seen inside the sinkhole, located near The Beer Store, surfaced on social media on Aug. 28. It shows the man’s head, clearly visible through the opening of the hole, as bystanders wait for police officers to arrive.

Police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said they received a call on Aug. 1. Officers said the man told them he fell in the hole, “however, that is unlikely considering the size of the hole,” she said.

The officers helped pull him out of the hole.
