Manitoulin OPP charge 56-year-old with attempted murder

Weapons call leads to the arrest without incident

A 56-year-old man from Sables-Spanish Rivers Township was arrested Saturday, following two separate weapons complaints on Lee Valley Road. 

Members of the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received the reports around 12:34 p.m. that evening and responded along with the Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation Police and Sudbury-Manitoulin Emergency Medical Services. 

The individual in question was arrested without incident and as a result of further investigation, charged with Attempt to Commit Murder with Firearm contrary to section 239 (1)(a.1) of the Criminal Code. 

He remains in custody with a schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice - Bail Court in Sudbury on May 25. 

Investigation into the incident is ongoing and being conducted by the Manitoulin OPP Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identifications Service. Further charges for the accused are pending.
