Manitoulin OPP charge pair of suspected impaired drivers

Toronto man and Greater Sudbury man both hit with impaired driving charges June 19

Manitoulin OPP arrested two suspected impaired drivers in their service area June 19, one of them from Toronto and the other from Greater Sudbury.

On June 19 at around 12:05 p.m. the Manitoulin OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17 in McKerrow.

Police located the vehicle and determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. 

As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old man from Toronto was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus)
  • Driving While under Suspension (three counts)
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Sept. 14.

Also on June 19, but in this case at around 9:50 p.m., Mantioulin OPP responded to three traffic complaints on Highway 6, north of Little Current.

Police located the vehicle in Espanola and conducted a traffic stop. It was determined the individual had been consuming alcoholic beverages and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 62-year-old man from Nickel Centre (Greater Sudbury) was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Aug. 10.
