An Ontario Provincial Police officer in the region is facing two impaired driving charges.

On Feb. 14 at approximately 1:50 a.m., Nipissing West OPP officers reported responding to a single motor vehicle collision on Hwy 17 at Long Lake Road in the City of Greater Sudbury.

In a news release, the OPP said the officer’s investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol and the man failed a roadside test. He was subsequently transported to the Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing.

As a result, Robert McKnight, 32, was charged with one count of operating a motor vehicle while impaired and one count of operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level higher than 80 mgs per 100 mL of blood.

The OPP said McKnight is a member of the OPP and has been stationed at the Manitoulin OPP Detachment for the past eight years. He was off-duty at the time of the crash, OPP said.

McKnight is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on March 25.
