With the hockey season well underway and the Christmas shopping season just around the corner, Greater Sudbury police are asking the public to park sensibly when downtown.

Officers of the traffic management unit will be patrolling streets in and around the Sudbury Arena ensuring that emergency vehicles have access to intersections, fire routes and lanes.

Police are reminding motorists not to park within three metres of a fire hydrant or entrance to a public lane and within nine metres of an intersection. The public is also reminded that from Dec. 1 to Mar. 31, no vehicle shall park on any city street from 12 am to 7 am. During winter months, city crews will be working to remove snow from downtown streets and any vehicle found parked on the road or in a public lane will be ticketed and towed.

Commercial vehicle owners are also reminded that no commercial vehicle shall park longer than two hours on any city street.
