Police are in the process of investigating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collision that occurred in French River Thursday, which resulted in one man being airlifted to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

On Oct. 3 around 4:50 p.m., officers from the Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Noëllville detachment, Emergency Medical Services, French River Fire Department and Orange Air Ambulance responded to reports of an ATV collision on a trail by Shuswap Road and Lemieux Road.

An OPP Collision Reconstructionist from the Sudbury Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) team was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

According to Police, the ATV was travelling westbound on property previously used as a fish hatchery, when he began making his own path through chest-height tall grass.

On this path the man drove into a deep washout, causing the ATV to land on top of him.

A 56-year-old driver from Monetville was the sole occupant of the ATV.
