Montpellier has May 27 court date

Justice Normand Glaude ruled Wednesday the preliminary hearing against Montpellier will begin May 27.

There have been numerous delays in setting a date for a preliminary hearing as Montpellier has attempted to get legal aid assistance to pay for his defence.

Montpellier has been in jail for almost 17 months after being arrested in England in October 2001. He was denied bail.

Montpellier, 40, faces 302 charges?151 of fraud over $5,000 and 151 of theft over $5,000?after allegedly stealing close to $6 million from 108 investors between 1995 and when he left Sudbury for England in late 1998.
