Updated: Guilletville home a ‘total loss’ after weekend fire

Deputy fire chief said blaze was ‘stubborn,’ loss is more than $300K

Updated Jan. 24 at 8:20 a.m.

Municipal Road 80 has now been opened to one lane in both directions after it was closed overnight due to a house fire in the Guilletville*** area.

Greater Sudbury Police announced the road was partially reopened at 7:24 a.m., noting that the road conditions are very icy, and maintenance crews are responding. They also asked people to use caution in the area due to the continued presence of emergency vehicles.

Deputy fire chief Jesse Oshell said on Twitter that the home is a complete loss, as the fire breached through the roof. The estimated loss is at least $300,000.

There were no injuries, and all the occupants are safe. At one point overnight, there were five fire stations on scene trying to deal with what Oshell called a “stubborn house fire.”
