Two thieves with a hunger for electronics and a Big Mac were arrested early Sunday morning as they waited for their french fries.

Greater Sudbury Police say two men, one 18 and the other 19, were blocked in at the McDonalds drive-thru on Regent Street after they stole a car and electronics in the Moonglo area around 1:20 a.m. Feb. 24.

“GSPS officers responded to a report of a break and enter that had just occurred in the area of the Moonglo subdivision,” a police press release said. “The homeowners woke up as a result of noise in their residence and noticed their vehicle being driven away.”

The pair took a variety of electronics, cash, alcohol and jewelry. But it was an iPhone they stole that was to be their downfall. Police located the vehicle using a tracker on the phone at the McDonalds Restaurant on Regent Street, where the culprits were waiting in the drive-thru.

“The vehicle was blocked in as a result of police vehicles on scene and by virtue of being in a drive thru,” the media release said. “The two male occupants were taken into custody. Property stolen from the residence was recovered.

The value of the stolen vehicle and property taken was more than $40,000. The property has been returned to the owners.

An 18 year old male and a 19 year old male both were held for bail hearings on charges of break, enter and theft and possessing stolen property.

There was also property recovered in the stolen vehicle not belonging to the owners or accused parties. Police are asking anyone whose vehicle was broken into overnight Feb. 24 in the Moonglo area to contact them “so that we can identify the rightful owners of the found property.”
