The second-degree murder trial against Daniel Beaulne, initially scheduled to begin Friday, has been postponed to at least Monday.

Accused of murdering his wife Sheryl in November 2001, Beaulne, 35, had been scheduled to appear before a seven-man, five-woman jury Friday morning in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at the Sudbury courthouse.

The trial was delayed, however, because Crown prosecutors Diana Fuller and Philip Zylberberg and defence lawyers Robert Beckett and Richard Huneault needed more time to argue pre-trial motions regarding the admissibility of evidence.

Justice John Poupore reminded journalists details of the pre-trial arguments cannot be published prior to the trial?s conclusion.

On Nov. 22, 2001, Sheryl Beaulne, 29, was discovered fatally wounded in her Val Caron home by police officers responding to an emergency 911 phone call.

The accused was also discovered at the scene, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Beaulne spent a number of days in hospital recuperating, under police guard, before being jailed to await his trial. He?s spent the past 17 months in custody at the Sudbury District Jail.

The trial is scheduled to last three weeks.
