The town of Little Current is one of nine new locations for an OPP detachment.

Little Current has been selected as part of the next phase of the OPP modernization initiative.

Nine new detachments will be built across the province that will enhance community safety and create new local jobs. These new facilities will replace buildings at the end of their useful lifespan, and will be designed to the LEED Silver standard to reduce environmental impacts.

“We welcome this new detachment to Little Current," said Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault.

"The OPP is a valued public safety partner on Manitoulin Island and we look forward to benefiting from enhanced community safety locally and in our surrounding communities”

The request for proposals for construction of the new detachments will be issued mid-2017.

The new Manitoulin Island detachment will be located at 488 Boozeneck Rd., Little current

“Modernizing local police detachments supports the OPP’s delivery of policing services, and will enhance community safety in areas across the province," said Marie-France Lalonde, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

"We all benefit from efficient, effective, and modern policing services.”
