A 60-year-old Newmarket man faces charges of operating a vehicle while impaired after the Ontario Provincial Police received a traffic complaint about a possible drunk driver on Highway 69.
OPP officers received the call on Dec. 21 at about 3:15 p.m. The suspect was travelling northbound on Highway 69 from the Britt area. Officers found the vehicle, stopped it around the French River area, and further investigation revealed the driver has been consuming alcohol.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on Jan. 29.
This charge marks 62 drivers charged under Criminal Impaired Driving Laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2019, said the OPP.
“Police rely on the public to report crime,” said the news release. “Impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently. If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 to report it.”
