A Sudbury man who added spitting in the face of a police officer to his long line of criminal indiscretions was handed a five-month jail sentence Wednesday.

Court heard Nimrod Vouture, 27, was arrested while intoxicated in mid-April after police arrived to break up a fight Vouture was not involved in.

Because he had been released on a court order to not consume alcohol, Vouture took off from the fight scene and when police caught him, he resisted.

After being taken to hospital and treated for stitches, Vouture spat in the face of a veteran officer.
One month earlier, Vouture tried to defend the honour of a female friend who had been evicted from her apartment by her landlord.

Vouture, accompanied by a large doberman, visited the landlord?s residence and after failing to pry open a window, kicked in a door.

Defence counsel Herve Sauve said Vouture was trying to retrieve personal possessions of his female friend from the landlord?s residence.

Vouture pleaded guilty to mischief, resisting arrest and breaching court orders.

Sauve told Justice Guy Mahaffy Vouture has had a serious problem with abusing alcohol for many years. Most of his criminal convictions are related to his alcohol abuse problems, said Sauve. His client is willing to take a treatment program once he?s released from custody, he said.

Mahaffy agreed to a joint submission of five months noting Vouture?s terrible criminal record and disgusting act of spitting in a police officer?s face. Five months is the ?absolute bare minimum?to treat an officer like that who was only trying to do his job? is unacceptable, said Mahaffy.
