A West Nipissing resident was arrested in Sturgeon Falls Thursday, but police said he didn't make it easy.

On May 28 around 6:20 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police West Nipissing detachment responded to report of a suspicious person on Dufferin Street in the Municipality of West Nipissing.

Officers located the individual in question on Lisgar Street in Sturgeon Falls, where it was determined that the suspect was already wanted by police.

The resident of West Nipissing was placed under arrest but was non-compliant, damaging a police vehicle and assaulting officers in the process.

As a result, the 38-year-old was charged with the following:

  • Assault of a Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC;
  • Mischief under $5,000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Sept. 3.
