One dead in Hwy. 17 crash near Spragge: OPP

The OPP has released the name of the driver who was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Daryl Todd Price of Cypress River, Manitoba.

One person is dead following a collision on Highway 17 in Spragge on Thursday, about 20 kilmoteres east of Blind River, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

Police received the call around 4:40 p.m. after a westbound car crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound tractor trailer.

The collision caused both vehicles to catch fire and skid eastbound, coming to a rest in the ditch.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

The victim's identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Highway 17 was closed overnight to large vehicles. The highway was reopened at 7:30 this morning.

The collision is still under investigation.
