OPP close investigation after elderly couple found dead in fire

Police say they are ‘not looking for any suspects’ in the November 2022 deaths of Joseph and Lorraine Brunet in Sturgeon Falls fire

The West Nipissing OPP say their investigation into the deaths of two Sturgeon Falls seniors in a fire last fall is now complete.

Emergency responders were called out to a fire on Quesnel Road Nov. 2, 2022. Two people were located deceased at the premises.

Those individuals were later identified as married couple Joseph Brunet, 91, and Lorraine Brunet, 81, both from Sturgeon Falls.

The OPP launched an investigation into the seniors’ deaths. 

Police say the investigation has determined “there are no public safety concerns and police are not looking for any suspects.”

The Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) has conducted a thorough investigation, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. 

“That investigation is now complete,” say provincial police.

No further details with respect to this investigation will be released, said a press release.
