A dog was found dead inside a burnt-out home in Markstay-Warren, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

It was determined the dog had been shot, said the OPP.

The fire happened Aug. 6 at 6:25 a.m. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. 

The Ontario Provincial Police is seeking information about a dead dog found inside a building that had just caught fire.

A suspicious man was seen leaving the scene in a late model pick-up truck. The vehicle headed towards Highway 17. The man is described as approximately six feet tall, with a thin build, dark complexion, and he was wearing a ball cap and grey hoodie.  

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing by members of the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) in partnership with members from the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM).  

While the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety.
