The Warren detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is investigating an assault that was brought to their attention on Feb. 11, 2017 through a media source.

The assault occurred on Feb. 1, 2017 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Highway 17 between the towns of Warren and Verner.

The female victim was driving eastbound on the highway when she was flagged down by a man whose vehicle was stopped on the south shoulder.

The victim told a local newspaper she walked closer to the man's car, then turned and glanced at the highway to make sure no cars were coming, and that was when the man attacked. She said he doubled a string around her neck. She struggled, and eventually he let go of the rope as another vehicle approached. The woman ran to her car and drove away. She said didn't contact police, because she felt she didn't have enough information to provide.

The man’s vehicle is described as an older model station wagon or small Sports Utility Vehicle with the back hatch open at the time of this incident.

The OPP is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle and man responsible. The OPP is also interested in speaking to the driver of an eastbound light-coloured pick-up truck who might have witnessed this incident.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this incident should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
