The body found near Fox Lake Road in the Cartier area Aug. 19 is that of missing Sudbury woman Constance Richards, the Nipissing West OPP have confirmed.

The 26-year-old had not been seen since Aug. 4.

Police say that around 12:05 p.m. Aug. 19, members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit located a deceased person near Fox Lake Road in Venturi Township.

A post mortem examination was conducted on Friday, Aug. 21  at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. The deceased person was identified as Constance Richards, age 26, of Sudbury. Police had been searching for Constance Richards since Aug. 8, when they were alerted to an abandoned vehicle in a gravel pit off of Fox Lake Road in Ermatinger Township. 

There is no concern for public safety, police say.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner-Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS). Also assisting is the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FIS).

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit located a deceased person near Fox Lake Road in Venturi Township on Aug. 19, the police service reported this evening.

The body was found just after noon yesterday.

OPP said the identity of the person has not yet been confirmed, and the police have not stated the gender of the body that was found. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow, Aug. 21, at Health Sciences North.

Using dogs and a helicopter, the OPP have been searching in the area around Fox Lake Road since last week, in hopes of locating a missing Sudbury woman, Constance Richards, who has not been seen since Aug. 4.

Last week, the OPP told media Richards’ vehicle had been located near a sandpit off Fox Lake Road, which is around 10 kilometres southwest of Cartier, a small community just off Highway 144, northwest of the city.
