OPP make arrest in historic Blind River sexual assault case

East Algoma OPP detachment recently re-opened an investigation into a historical sexual assault that occurred between Jan. 1, 1985 and Dec. 2, 2014.

As a result of the investigation, 60-year-old Kim Shanahan previously from Blind River and now residing in Sault Ste. Marie, was charged with:

  • Sexual Interference (X5), contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age (X5), contrary to section 271 of the CC
  • Invitation of Sexual Touching Under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC
  • Sexual Assault (X3), contrary to section 246.1 of the CC
  • Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Feb. 14, 2019.
